jobs

so i'd like you all to know that yeaaaaay i have not one job, but two now! and it sounds perfect so far! i went in for a bit of training on monday for a job at Cafe Eden. a real great cafe that serves beveys and yummy food and it's only a 10-15 min skate from home! there i will be working casual hours meaning, the manager will text me at the beginning of the week with some shifts and i can say whether i can take them or not. and most of the shifts he said will be near the beginning of the week, which is perfect for my other job, at Monte Gelato. and today i just had my first day of training there!
at Monte Gelato, i have two definite shifts on thursdays and fridays. and i start this week! and it's location? right along the beach :) about a 15-20min drive from home.
it's awesome because i have no weekend work which is ideal and they both kinda fit into the other scheduling wise and the bosses and staff both seem fantastik so far!
and it's cool how i went from no jobs to two and they both just kinda happened. i've learned as long as you give it to God and go out there and show yourself to people, things happen!
i am also looking for a car which isn't an easy task but carmen's dad rodney is really good with cars and i have a friend here who's a mechanic so i've got help!

weekend past

this past weekend was another great one!
FRIDAY carms and i headed up to hamilton, we picked up van, and met up with logan and blair and then headed off for an evening surf in raglan. (the drive there was one of the funniest i've ever encountered. but there is just no explaining it. but, to those involved, long live the golden _ _ _ _ _ _.) coast to coast in a couple hours! and what a beauty of a surf it was, the waves were clean, you could look out and see all the eager surfers bobbing around, and the setting sun was majestic. you can't help but thank God for the beauty he created! however, i practically ran a guy over surfing. i caught a wave and he all of a sudden was directly in my path but i wasn't standing yet, therefore, pretty much unable to steer, so, i plowed over the end of his board and heard his shouts follow after me...logan said it is a good thing i'm a girl..haha.
the last wave was magical as van and i both caught one right beside each other and then i looked to my left and there was this other random guy right beside me. and there we were, all cruising along side by side. i couldn't help but roar with laughter.
but in my fit of laughter i had gotten off my board after the wave finished and neglected the whereabouts of my board. another wave came crashing behind me, and flung the board into the side of my head. i heard a loud crack and thought i had maybe broken my jaw. but after a few moments of feeling and moving my jaw around, i soon discovered all was at it should be. mind you my jaw is still tender to the touch. but hey, such is the life of a surfer ;P
after the beach we headed to a local restaurant for some grub and laughs.

after our surf at rags
SATURDAY blair and i played 4 games of pool at logans house and whoever won got to drive the car around that day. and guess who was driving around that day? ME. oh yes, 3 out of 4 games aint so bad! haha
we all headed to the gardens in hamilton for a jazz festival which was alice and wonderland themed. there was this "make a pennant" thingy where you got to design and create your own flag! it was made on a bicycle powered sewing machine. pretty cool!

powering up that sewing machine!
this guy was a legend, so passionate about this project. he is holding up the final product!
i got to learn how to slack line! which is quite a challenge but real good for balance. hopefully i'll get photo's soon from that.
then for a skate in the evening and out to an asian drink restaurant with some sweet as peeps. i got coconut milk tea. it was yum!
skate team: van, stace, me, laura, and blair
our assortment of drinks
SUNDAY was church in the morning, a really great down to earth gathering. and then wakeboarding at karipero in the afternoon. i completed my goal of going from wake to wake yiyiii and also a nice face plant in there to finish things off..
special thanks to Jason Haselden for the photo's! a few select from the myriad of faces that is my wakeboarding face.
i have a nice sore neck from this haha
for the evening carmz, logan, van, blair, stace, josh and i piled into logan's newly purchased van and headed to the Chinese Lantern Festival in auckland. which was such a good time. there were many things to see and eat. and there was one event specifically which i forcefully got very involved in. that event would be karaoke.
some of the lanterns on display
me, van, and stace on the way up!
we happened to have just arrived when they were changing the stage over to karaoke and then my friends just got it in their heads to get me to do it. of course i refused profusely. but they literally dragged me up to sign me up and chose a song for me. they told me they'd give me $30 if i did it. i refused and refused but low and behold, their pleading little faces and that $30 did the trick. before i knew it i was in line to sing "Fever" an old jazz song. but the thing was that we didn't even know if it was the song we were thinking because everything was in chinese except the name of the song. but i hoped for the best. i had an intro from a very cute old asian man and asked where i was from and i told him canada, he said something about delin cion, "you mean celine dion..?" i said. what a cutie. the moment of truth came, music came on and the words across the screen...aaaand they were all chinese characters..haha, i looked up and said, "it's all in chinese" into the microphone and my announcer friend came up and said then lets just dance! so we did and that got the audience going. he told me to go choose another song and someone else would go while i was choosing. my heart was racing as i had to do this all over again, i looked at the book and chose one i hadn't seen when i looked before, "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" by queen. this was it. the time came for me to come back up. the music began again aaaaand, man it was so low! haha, but hey i went with it and i gave my friends what they asked for, a show. i danced, i did actions, i told people to clap, i went down to the audience to give them high fives (HA), i basically milked those few minutes and, i was loving it. at the end i did a little bow with my hands together and said xiexie, which means thank you in madarin and that got another roar. there were several hundred in the audience and they were AWESOME! haha, i actually had such fun and was able to give my friends quite the laugh. and most of them gave me my payment, i think i've gotten $20 of the $30 so far ;) AHEM.
the evening ended with fireworks off the sky tower.
what an epic weekend.

valentines day

valentines day here was a day before back home chyeaaaaa and it was great! it started off with doing some house cleaning for a friend (who will remain unmentioned haha)
then some beach time with van, carm, and nick. but while they were lounging around on the beach i was bringing a few resume's around to some of the local shops. a cafe and a gelato shop. yum! so we'll see where that leads!

that evening we had a chill "school send off party" for van as she's going to school in hamilton (sad but we'll visit her lots!) we had our own home made pizza's that we baked in a special made pizza oven that her dad campbell had made. yum!

most people went home around 10ish but the "non-workies" decided to go for a late night mish. so, we geared up in van's warmest clothes then headed for the mount where we were going to climb part way up and sit at the "lighthouse" with hot milo and blankets.
this was a somewhat scary task as the mount is semi far from people and unlit. but we had the stars and our songs to keep us company.
once we arrived at the lighthouse i had a good laugh as it isn't much of one..it's a light surrounded by a fence and a concrete slab on top...haha, but it was a great place to sit and hang.

the "lighthouse"
our warm as clothes
yum campy milo
happy as can be
we sat up there for hours telling stories, making up uh-mazing songs and giggling away. what a great way to spend valentines :)

the mount & wake boarding

we did it!

SUCH a sweet as day yesterday. at about 9:30 carms and i were at the beach out for a surf. beauty.
then laura and vanessa met us there to go for a trek up the mount. now, we did not go at an ideal time mind you as it was blazing heat but hey we did it and there was a gorgeous view of the bay of plenty at the top.
a piece of tauranga
we then proceeded to run the whole way down, apparently this is the only way to do so they say. it was very invigorating, but we were so ready for a swim after that. so we went boogie boarding. we headed off to get food and then back to laura's to do some more, you guessed it, swimming in their pool. :)

laura, van, carm, and i
at the summit
where we went wakeboarding at calebs in the salt "lake" below
then we headed to caleb's house and it's a beauty at that. they have a tennis court, fresh water pool and hot tub, a workout room, boat, etc. a bunch of us met up there and headed out for a wakeboard mish. aaand i got up on my second try! i was so stoked. and it was super fun! we all headed in to get warmed up in the pool and hot tub.
living the dream.

nitro circus & boating day & first 21st & wedding & pori pori

last wednesday carmen and i set out for hamilton to meet up with the bois, logan and blair to watch nitro circus live!
the nitro circus stadium
it was pretty siiick! so much rediculousness happening at the same time. bmx, fmx, skateboarding, scooters, rollerblades, and other various random objects with wheels such as a pink barbie car! all doing tricks upon tricks.

aaand I CAN HEAR AGAIN! for the past several days i have been unable to hear out of my right ear due to sea water and a build up of ear wax (yummaaa!). well, logan had this syringe that he filled with water to squirt into my ear, and low and behold after much squirming and laughing so hard i had tears streaming, the loathsome chunks of wax came out aaand i could hear!!! i was so stoked. there were never truer friends :)

beauty of a sunset in our backyard
this past saturday it was the first youth event of the year (i will be helping out with the youth group at Bethlehem Baptist Church or BBC, carmen's church) and we had a boating day! it was real fun and there were all sorts of things to do in the water such as, wakeboarding, skiing, tubing (or they call it biscuiting), banana boating, etc. i attempted single skii a couple times but to no avail, i'll just come back to that later :) and went for a mean ride on the tubes, i am a tad terrified of them but that made it all the more funny. good times.

after the boating, we got glamed up in a flash to head to carmen's cousin fraser's 21st birthday party. here in NZ the 21st birthday is a HUGE celebration. think about a wedding and it's pretty close to that. there is tons of food, everyone is dressed up (depending on the party), speeches, a slide show, and loads of family and friends! at this particular one they also had a dance which was heaps of fun, they had a couple come in who taught couple dancing, and we did it! the lads all stayed a circle and all the women moved around circle, one to the right every time they said to, which was real fun. so heaps of laughs were had as not everyone was very fluid or could even remember the steps!

on the sunday i assisted carmen in shooting a wedding (photography). i was not expecting to actually take photo's but she got me to as we both had nikons that could interchange lenses. i got to use mine with a MASSIVE lens. i felt real pro. :)

then i met up with vanessa and laura (two awesome friends of carmen's who are now my friends too :) ) and they took me to pori pori, a super sweet swimming spot in a river. we would let the current take us down and then try to get to the edge to clamber up on the rocks and do it all over again which was great laughs. and the day was finished with watching a flick at laura's.

boards on land and water

this past weekend was really great! we headed to Hamilton where logan and blair live. on saturday we headed to Raglan to go surfing. and man time goes by quickly on the beach..we were there for 4 hours and I got a liiiiiittle burnt..but a hilarious one, a wet suit burn..and this wetsuit was a little short for me haha. so my hands and ankles and face were all a little rosier than normal. it’s all good, because now I look like a true surfer :)
wetsuit burn/tan

in the evening we headed out for a skate around which was real nice. on our skate we found a skid so we decided to take it back with us to burn for a fire. it was a tight squeeze on the way back!
hooligans
squished

shoved in the back!

on the sunday we headed to rags again to go surfing and this time I caught my first waves! and also caught them on the gopro! so now I have proof :) this time I loaded up on the sun screen too. so no worries there!
